1996 07 Some of the best known names in Canada's oil and gas industry have formed an association, Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada, to collaborate on research and technology development. "PTAC brings stakeholders together to help identify areas where technology makes a difference," says President Eric Lloyd. "It identifies research projects to address these problems, and promotes industry participation in the resulting research and technology." The 31 founding members, including Alberta Energy Company, Amoco Canada Petroleum, Crestar Energy, Gulf Canada Resources, PanCanadian Petroleum, Poco Petroleums, Ryan Energy, Saskatchewan Research Council, Schlumberger, Talisman Energy, and the University of Calgary, have made a three-year commitment to support PTAC, a non-profit association run by a volunteer board comprised of representatives from producers, service and supply companies, research and educational institutions, and inventors. Initially PTAC will focus on eight areas: production and processing of natural gas; drilling; oil production; well completion, stimulation and workover; oil and gas transportation; reservoir recovery; geoscience; and basic research. |
