Unconventional Gas Technology Roadmap Workshops
Shale Gas Notes   CBM/NGC Notes   Tight Gas Notes   Gas Hydrates Notes
Summary Notes

Dates: October 14, 17, 20, 25 & November 4, 2005

PTAC Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada invites you and suitable representatives from your organization to participate in the Unconventional Gas Technology Roadmap Workshops. The PTAC Unconventional Gas Technology Roadmap (TRM) is being developed to outline the business and societal challenges to development, the state of current recovery technology and the best avenues for improved or new technology for coalbed methane, tight gas, shale gas and gas hydrates. The workshops have been organized to help develop the body of the roadmap document.

Workshop participants will be asked to brainstorm on various technology issues and will be provided briefing papers designed to stimulate thinking. The briefing papers may include key charts, illustrations and explanatory text specific to the workshop gas type. The briefing papers will be made available to registrants one week prior to session dates.

Your input and expertise are appreciated and needed to develop a successful Canadian roadmap. Roadmaps have gained wide acceptance as an excellent way to bring industry, government and societal groups together and guide cooperative work.

Workshop Structure
The workshops will begin with a presentation outlining the objectives of the roadmap and workshop and will be structured in the following format:

  1. A cross-section of participants with various areas of expertise will be assigned to one of four breakout groups
  2. Each breakout group will address the following issues:
    a) Definition of the Reserve
    b) Major challenges from technology or other drivers
    c) Challenges specific to Environmental concerns
    d) Current state of recovery technology
    e) Future technology development challenges
  3. Upon summarizing the above output, all breakout groups will re-convene to share their respective input in a plenary session
  4. Participants will then be sorted into new breakout groups according to their areas of expertise to refine and add value to the output from the morning sessions (largely issues d and e)
  5. All breakout groups will re-convene again to provide final feedback (time permitting)
