Energy, Oil and Water Efficiency in Mature Operations

Presentations   Evaluation and Feedback Summary PDF (134 KB)

Date: Wednesday, June 16, 2004
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Continental breakfast and lunch provided)
Location: Beefeater Motor Inn - 1305 - 9th Street Estevan, Saskatchewan

Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and the Saskatchewan Office of Energy Conservation invite you to attend a forum focused on improving the economics and energy efficiency of mature oil production operations in southern Saskatchewan.

This session will provide a forum for field operations personnel, head office staff and local area service providers to hear about key water and power management strategies, issues, concerns and ideas, and discuss potential actions which might be taken to encourage additional energy conservation measures in the region.

Background
The Western Canadian oil and gas industry consumes approximately $6 billion/yr in energy based on an assumed average energy cost of $5/GJ. PTAC believes there are significant energy reduction opportunities in oil and gas operations resulting from new innovative technologies and practices.

In the mature oil production operations found across southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, the main energy cost for operations is purchased power that, in turn, is strongly dependent on water production volumes. As follow-up to a PTAC Technology Information Session held in January 2004, this session will focus on solutions to promote efficient use of electrical power, and to reduce the total power demand through effective water management or alternate recovery methods.
