INVITATION

Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) Office of Energy Efficiency, and NewERA invite you to a forum focused on economic Distributed Power Generation (DG), in Western Canadian upstream oil and gas operations. The Forum is intended to provide oil and gas producers and stakeholders with information, ideas and potential assistance in assessing DG and/or cogeneration opportunities.

Forum Content
This year the Western Canadian oil and gas industry will consume an estimated $6 billion/yr in energy (1340 PJ @$5/GJ) based on an assumed natural gas price for energy. However, not all the consumed energy is provided from natural gas. Electrical power provides 8.5% of the industry's energy that will cost $1.6 billion/yr @ $14/GJ ($0.05/kw-hr) which excludes connection costs and demand charges. The monthly power bills directly impact field operating costs. PTAC believes there are significant energy reduction opportunities in oil and gas operations resulting from the application of innovative or alternative technologies and practices. These alternatives reduce operating costs and have the potential to significantly increase oil and gas recovery while reducing overall energy intensity, emissions and use of centralized coal power generation.

This forum will provide an opportunity for field operations personnel, head office staff, government representatives, local area service providers, researchers and innovators to hear about alternative distributed power generation strategies. Presentations will include electrical energy issues, concerns and ideas, and potential actions which might be taken to enhance overall efficiencies. ISSUES TO BE COVERED:

  • Impacts of Power Decisions on Efficiency Indicators
  • Oil and Gas Opportunities for Distributed Generation
  • Power Generation to Reduce Flare Gas Emissions, Increase Efficiency and Reliability
  • New Energy Options
  • Business Case for Energy Efficiency in Upstream Oil and Gas
  • NewERA - Overcoming Barriers to Distributed Generation
  • Funding Energy Efficiency

There is no fee to attend this forum but registration is required. For technical information contact: Bruce Peachey, New Paradigm Engineering Ltd. via email: newparadigm@shaw.ca or phone: (780) 448-9195
