2011 Resource Access and Ecological Issues Forum
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Description
Sustainable resource access is one of the leading challenges facing industry today. The oil and gas industry is committed to reducing physical footprint on the landscape and to minimizing industry-based effects on species, ecosystems and ecosystem components. The challenge facing industry is to minimize impacts to all levels of biodiversity (including flora and fauna) and ecological processes while continuing to develop oil and gas reserves, and to effectively restore impacted areas. At the same time, it is important that the regulatory environmental requirements governing oil and gas activity be based in science. Thus, research is needed to affect the direction of current and emerging policy and legislation.
Oil and gas producers have invested millions of dollars in ecological related research projects in recent years to address these challenges. This event will focus on the ecological research coordinated by PTAC (on behalf of CAPP) in 2010 and 2011. The event provides technical updates of 2010 and 2011 research, which included projects related to footprint restoration, strategies for revegetating sensitive landscapes, seismic line successional recovery, and ecology of species at risk. Interspersed among the project-based presentations will be numerous presentations related to important issues and initiatives for the oil and gas sector, such as regulatory updates, species at risk recovery plan updates, land conservation projects and other projects of interest.
