Industry Experts Wanted
There are a limited number of openings for industry experts to serve on the 2002 COURSE application evaluation panel.  Research expertise or hands-on field experience in one or more of the COURSE funding areas is essential.  Preference is given to Canadian and worldwide employees of COURSE member companies.


January 2002 Funding Competition

Course Funding for 2002 Approved

The COURSE (Core University Research in SustainableEnergy (COURSE) Program of the Alberta Energy Research Institute) review panel met February 21st to consider 50 applications from the January 2002 competition to allocate $3 million in research funding.

Applications received covered the following research topics: fuel cells (3); plant operations (4); oil sands mining (4); environmental (12); electricity generation (1); extraction (1); tailings ponds (1); upgrading (2); oil/gas pipelines (3); service industry & seismic (3); heavy oil (7); conventional oil/gas & EOR (5); coalbed methane (1); petrochemicals (1); other – hydrates (1); and other – market power.

A review panel made up of four AERI research managers, six university representatives and 10 industry representatives recommended seven applications with a total value of $1,140,527 as “must fund” projects, and a further 10 projects with a total value of$2,738,263. All other projects were rejected.
