The ISPIR Consortium (Natural Resources Canada/CANMET, TISEC Inc. and FOX-TEK Inc), Syncrude Canada Ltd., Enbridge Pipelines Inc. and PTAC Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada invite you and suitable representatives from your organization to attend an information session introducing a novel, non-intrusive, and flexible method of monitoring the structural integrity of pipeline systems and their components - fiber-optic sensing. This session will introduce the method, describe how it is used, and give some examples of applications in operating pipelines and piping.
Background The Project This approach is well-suited to long-range and localized monitoring of pipelines. It makes continuous monitoring of mechanical or thermal strains cost-effective, particularly at critical locations. This technology makes real-time detection and monitoring of fault conditions possible and generates information-rich strain data that can be useful for prioritizing and scheduling maintenance activities. Optical strain sensor configurations for monitoring local stress corrosion cracking, corrosion/erosion metal loss, and extended area surveillance will be described. Special prefabricated transducers to simplify installation will also be presented.
The Opportunity To obtain technical information, please contact D. Robert Hay of TISEC Inc by phone: (514) 684-9096 or email: bobhay@tisec.com.
