OVERVIEW
Objective
To provide technology developers,
researchers, funders, government agencies, producers, supporters and
equipment manufacturers with one stop access to information on industry
problems, case studies, existing knowledge sources and R&D efforts.
Why is an R&D Database Needed?
-
Canada has long been a leader in conventional oil and gas industry
innovation and novel technology development.
-
Commercial development of those innovations is often hindered by the
relative isolation in which most Canadian innovators work.
-
To overcome the difficulties of distance and communication, and to keep
commercialization opportunities in Canada, new electronic collaboration and
communication tools are required.
Why use PTAC’s Website?
-
PTAC has developed the concept of a conventional oil and gas industry
“Knowledge Centre” which is intended to facilitate access to industry
knowledge.
-
PTAC has been building on this concept with support from Western
Diversification Canada, other funders, and PTAC members (funding and in-kind
support) with an initial focus on PTAC's TEREE Committee (Technology for
Emissions Reduction and Eco-Efficiency).
-
A listing of R&D providers and innovators would be a valuable addition to
the Knowledge Centre. It would provide innovators and researchers access to
the information they need, such as economic drivers, problem descriptions,
existing knowledge, technical expertise and PTAC committees.
What Projects should be included?
- new research or technology development projects that are actively being worked
on by any Western Canadian institution, individual innovator, SME (Small, Medium
Enterprise) or corporate research group, which may be of interest to
government agencies, producers or equipment manufacturers/suppliers.
- while the initial focus is on conventional oil and gas projects, PTAC will
accept all submissions and post those that meet the basic criteria.
PTAC will post projects which:
-
appear to be supported by credible research providers or parties who are the
primary developers of the technology.
-
are actively being developed.
-
are felt to be new technologies that are not variations of existing commercial
products.
-
are technologies that have application in conventional upstream oil and gas
sectors and which may also have complementary benefits for downstream
operations, transmission pipelines or oil sands developments.
