Alberta Research Council Inc.
and Nexen Inc. invite you, or a representative from your
organization, to attend an information session for a proposal to initiate
a Joint Industry Project (JIP). The ultimate goal of this JIP is to
improve the economic recovery of natural gas by developing a technology
that reduces the cost, increases recovery and greatly mitigates operating
problems.
Background In tight gas
reservoirs where the permeability is less than 1 mD, the gas production
can be significantly reduced by the type of fluids (fracturing and
completion) that come into contact with the producing formation. Aqueous
fluids are imbibed quickly into the formation, increasing water saturation
near the wellbore region and therefore can dramatically reduce effective
permeability to natural gas (phase trapping). Removing or mitigating the
phase trapping damage is the focus of this project.
Project Description
Draw together a group of companies
interested in a field pilot project.
Conduct
a combination of laboratory investigations, numerical simulation, and
stimulation design.Target potential field pilot
demonstrations using the findings of the project.
Who Should Attend Organizations
searching for or holding leases containing tight gas
reservoirsCompanies developing commercial, pilot or expansion
plans containing tight gas reservoirsCompanies desiring to
lower risks in reserve estimates coupled with enhancement in recovery
potentialStimulation teams, engineers and
managersDevelopment and exploitation engineers and
managersProduction operations engineers and
managersReservoir and EOR engineers and
managers
The Opportunity ARC’s Enhanced Gas and Oil
Recovery (EGOR) program is an industry-driven program to develop
technologies focused on improving oil and natural gas recovery. Industry
Members, the Alberta Energy Research Institute (AERI), and ARC jointly
fund this program. For an annual fee, participating companies are entitled
to play a major role in directing the focus of the research program, gain
direct access to the experimental results relating to their field
operations, and receive a royalty free license to use the
developed/improved technologies. Participants find advantage in these
Joint Industry Projects through financial leverage of 3 to 1 or
more.
