INVITATION

Alberta Research Council Inc. and Nexen Inc. invite you, or a representative from your organization, to attend an information session for a proposal to initiate a Joint Industry Project (JIP). The ultimate goal of this JIP is to increase profitability of medium gravity oil pools with wells producing at high water-cut due to mature waterflood or occurrence of water coning; concurrently, by developing a sustainable technology for increasing oil recovery in addition to mitigating CO2 / acid gas emissions by storage or sequestration.

Background

ARC has substantial expertise in various aspects of CO2 /acid gas injection for enhancing oil recovery. Simultaneously, the industry, especially in the USA, has field tested many of the concepts. The accumulated know-how can be suitably adapted for specific purposes of improving oil recovery/returns from medium gravity operations, and CO2 storage or sequestration.

Project Description

The goal of this JIP is to further develop the application of CO2 /acid gas injection for improving profitability of medium gravity oil pools. The project consists of the following stages:

  1. Investigation of feasibility of CO2 injection and/or CO2 plus waste gas injection into medium gravity oil pools producing at high water-cut
  2. Development of suitable schemes for implementation
  3. Field testing/piloting

Who Should Attend

  • Improved and enhanced oil recovery engineers and managers
  • Reservoir, development and exploitation engineers and managers
  • Production engineers and managers

The Opportunity

ARC’s Enhanced Gas and Oil Recovery (EGOR) program is an industry-driven program to develop technologies focused on improving oil and natural gas recovery. Industry Members, the Alberta Energy Research Institute (AERI), and ARC jointly fund this program. For an annual fee, participating companies are entitled to play a major role in directing the focus of the research program, gain direct access to the experimental results relating to their field operations, and receive a royalty free license to use the developed/improved technologies.

To obtain technical information, please contact Elena Tzanco of ARC by phone: (403) 210-5205, fax: (403) 210-5277, or email: Tzanco@arc.ab.ca .
