Enhanced Gas Recovery by Downhole Compression - A Ground Breaking Concept - Joint Industry Project
Presentation PDF (2,580 KB)

Date: Thursday, November 27th, 2003
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Location:

ConocoPhillips Conference Centre: Third Floor, West End Gulf Canada Square, 401 9th Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta

Corac Group plc, Husky Energy and PTAC invite you or a representative from your organization, to attend an information session to initiate a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to design, develop and bring to market a new downhole gas compression concept. The technology is anticipated to benefit operators through:
  • Acceleration of production
  • Increase in Ultimate Recovery
  • Production from otherwise uneconomic discoveries or backed-out fields
  • Extension of production plateau
  • Rejuvenation of declining fields
Background
Corac Group plc is a UK based technology and Intellectual Property company focused on maximizing recovery from existing natural gas fields. From both economic and strategic standpoints, a downhole compressor in close proximity to the reservoir has been determined to be the optimum solution.

A recent Feasibility Study launched in conjunction with Shell successfully shows the design concept to be both technically feasible and economically advantageous. Incremental production rate improvements (for the reference case gas field) in excess of 40% have been demonstrated.

The Project
The present proposal brings together patented tried and proven technologies (by Corac) in "No-Oil" industrial compressors packaging them for use in a wellbore. The project will include the following steps:
  • Concept verification
  • Detailed Design and sub-system testing
  • Prototype manufacture and full scale development testing
  • Field trials.
The Opportunity
For an annual fee, participating companies are entitled to play a major role in this JIP. Although commercial terms remain subject to agreement, it is envisaged that participants will have exclusive access to this technology (for a period to be agreed). By ensuring the availability of this technology, operators will be able to release very significant added value from existing gas assets. Investment opportunities in the technology itself also exist.

Who Should Attend
Game Changing Technology Champions and those involved in gas production optimization, rotating machinery discipline experts, technology and R&D budget holders.
