  5. Ranking of Potential EPR R&D Focus Areas by Priority

It is important that you rank your interest in the following potential EPR R&D focus areas in order of priority, as your breakout group assignment will be based on your ranking. Please do not rank items that are not of significant interest.

    1 2 3 4 5
Greenhouse Gas, C02 and Sour Gas Collection, Transport and Sequestration
Sources of the gases, how to economically collect the gases (for example, improved C02 recovery from flue gas), transport and sequestration. The issues will include the validation of the volume of gas, which can be sequestered, and the long-term fate of the gas with recommendations on activity to validate these aspects.

    1 2 3 4 5
    Improved Natural Gas Recovery
Advances in natural gas recovery, including water invasion control, horizontal wells, treatment methods to remove reservoir blockage, sulphur removal/handling and "final" sweep to deplete reservoirs.

    1 2 3 4 5
Improved Conventional Light and Medium Oil Recovery Methods
Use and identification of new and existing processes for conventional light and medium oil recovery (C02 flooding potential, sweep improvement, new waterflood concepts, horizontal wells, etc.)

    1 2 3 4 5
Improved Plant Operations and Pipeline Operations that Contribute to EPR
Improvements in facility and well operations including oil/water/gas separation, water disposal/recycle, new material requirements; pipeline transportation improvements, heated pipelines, density specifications to reduce diluent, co-transportation of C02 and oil, innovations to reduce diluent (e.g., asphalt removal)

    1 2 3 4 5
Reservoir Characterization, Monitoring, Numerical Simulation and Integrated Data Handling Methods
Advances required to reduce the cost and improve accuracy of reservoir characterization and monitoring including 3-D/4-D seismic, non-seismic methods, and "smart" observation wells; improvements in integrated data collection and handling methods and numerical simulation for emerging recovery methods, and geochemical/geological aspects.

    1 2 3 4 5
    Coalbed Methane Recovery
Status of coalbed methane recovery technology and critical technology development areas required for advancement.

    1 2 3 4 5
    Improved Conventional Heavy Oil Recovery
Use of new processes for heavy oil recovery (i.e., Vapex, SAGD, wormholes, etc.) and identify critical technology for improvements or to augment production following initial depletion

    1 2 3 4 5
    Other R&D Needs
(Please specify – feel free to elaborate in an email or fax to PTAC)
