"Claiming Oil and Gas Equipment as Capital Expenditures under the SR&ED Program” - Fifth in a Series of SR&ED Technical Working Group Forums

Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), KPMG High Technology Practice Group, PTAC and PSAC invite you to attend a Technical Working Group session designed to clarify which types of oil and gas equipment qualify for SR&ED tax credits, and to explain regulations (under Canada’s Income Tax Act) pertaining to the acquisition and usage of oilfield equipment under the SR&ED Program.

Date:   Wednesday, January 30, 2002
Time:   8:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Location:            Main Auditorium, Alberta Research Council
250 Karl Clark Road (23 Avenue and Parsons Road)
Edmonton, Alberta   (phone: (780) 450-5111)

Background
The SR&ED Program affords Canadian companies an avenue to write off expenditures incurred on R&D carried out in Canada. In addition, the Program provides tax credits, which can be carried forward for up to ten years, and used to offset income taxes payable. CCRA, in collaboration with PTAC, PSAC, and KPMG High Technology Practice Group, hosted four previous sessions on the modalities of the SR&ED program, the definition of an SR&ED project, the eligibility criteria for SR&ED, and information needed to support SR&ED work. Following this winter session, there will be a spring and a fall session. The spring session will deal with Field Pilots as potential SR&ED projects, while the fall session will focus on Shop Floor R&D.

Benefits to Participants
This workshop will provide valuable information to oil and gas executives, engineers and accountants on guidelines as well as requirements for claiming capital expenditures on oil and gas equipment for SR&ED credits. Participants will hear from experts on the subject from CCRA, and from renowned and experienced tax practitioners and industry members.  Oil and gas companies involved in upstream as well downstream activities, as well as R&D and other services providers are particularly invited to attend this important session.
