“Claiming Field Pilot Work and Related Expenditures under the SR&ED Program” -
Sixth in the Series of SR&ED Technical Working Group Forums

Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), KPMG High Technology Practice Group, PTAC and PSAC invite you to attend a Technical Working Group Forum designed to clarify the kind of R&D work carried out as part of the development of an oil and/or gas asset that may qualify for SR&ED tax credits. Session speakers will also provide information to participants about the rules and regulations under Canada's Income Tax Act that apply when field pilot work is being considered as SR&ED. Speakers include experts from CCRA as well as from the oil and gas industry.

Date:   Tuesday, May 7, 2002
Time:   8:15 a.m. – 11:05 a.m.
Location:

EnCana Amphitheatre formerly known as the PanCanadian Amphitheatre, 2nd Floor, Tower Centre, 131- 9th Avenue S.E., Calgary

Background
The SR&ED Program affords Canadian companies an avenue to write off expenditures incurred on R&D carried out in Canada. In addition, the Program provides tax credits, which can be carried forward for up to 10 years, and used to offset income taxes payable. This session is the sixth in a series of Technology Forums discussing CCRA issues of interest to the oil and gas industry. The January session in Edmonton addressed the requirements under Canada’s Income Tax Act for oil and gas equipment development and/or use to qualify as Capital expenditures under the SR&ED Program. The CCRA fall session will deal with how Shop Floor R&D carried out in the oil and gas industry can qualify as SR&ED.

Benefits to Participants
This workshop will provide valuable information to oil and gas executives, engineers, accountants, R&D providers, regulatory agencies and tax practitioners on rules, guidelines and requirements for claiming field pilot work and associated expenditures for SR&ED credits. Participants will hear from experts on the subject from CCRA, and from renowned and experienced oil and gas engineers.  Oil and gas companies involved in upstream as well downstream activities, equipment developers, tax practitioners, regulatory agencies and R&D services providers are particularly invited to attend this important session.
