Winter 2003 Oil and Gas Industry SR&ED Forum Third Party R&D in the Oil and Gas Industry

Eighth in the Series of SR&ED Technical Working Group Forums

Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), KPMG High Technology Practice Group, PTAC and ARC invite you to attend a Technical Working Group session designed to clarify the rules and regulations under Canada’s Income Tax Act that apply when a company undertakes collaborative R&D with other parties with the intent of claiming such work under the SR&ED Program.

Date:  Tuesday, February 25, 2003
Time:              8:15 – 11:30 a.m.

Location:

Main Auditorium, Alberta Research Council
250 Karl Clark Road (23 Avenue and Parsons Road)
Edmonton, Alberta  phone: (780) 450-5111

Background
The SR&ED Program affords Canadian companies an avenue to write off expenditures incurred on R&D carried out in Canada. In addition, the Program provides tax credits, which can be carried forward for up to 10 years, and used to offset income taxes payable. This is the eighth in the series of Technology Forums dedicated to the discussion of issues of interest to the oil and gas industry. The last session was held in Calgary in October 2002, and it addressed the requirements for shop floor R&D and related expenditures to be eligible for SR&ED credits. Our 9th session, scheduled for May 2003, will deal with technology challenges that the industry will face to comply with Canada’s commitment under the Kyoto Protocol.

Benefits to Participants
This workshop will provide valuable information to oil and gas executives, engineers, accountants, R&D service providers, regulatory agencies, tax practitioners, service companies, funding agencies, legal firms, on rules, guidelines and requirements for claiming collaborative R&D work for SR&ED credits. Participants will hear from experts on the subject from CCRA, ARC, and from renowned and experienced oil and gas professionals. The session will be valuable to companies involved in upstream and downstream activities;
including heavy oil and bitumen producers and upgraders, companies involved in developing oilfield equipment, and environmental services providers.

To register or to obtain additional information about the session, please contact Chris Chiwetelu of CCRA via Fax: (403) 691-6625, Phone: (403) 691-6424, or Email: Chris.Chiwetelu@ccra-adrc.gc.ca no later than February 21, 2003.
