Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), Suncor Energy Inc., KPMG High Technology Practice Group, PTAC, and Alberta Research Council (ARC) invite you to attend a Technical Working Group session designed to provide valuable information about Climate Change and the R&D challenges/opportunities for SR&ED performers in Canada

Date:   Wednesday, May 21, 2003
Time:              8:15 – 11:30 a.m.
Location:
ABC Meeting Room, Ground Floor, Harry Hays Building
220 - 4th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB

Background
The SR&ED Program affords Canadian companies an avenue to write off expenditures incurred on R&D carried out in Canada. In addition, the Program provides tax credits, which can be carried forward for up to 10 years, and used to offset income taxes payable. This is the ninth in the series of Technology Forums dedicated to the discussion of issues of interest to the oil and gas industry. The last session was held in Edmonton in February 2003, and it addressed the requirements for Third Party R&D and related expenditures to be eligible for SR&ED credits. Our next session will take place in the fall of 2003.

Benefits to Participants
This workshop will provide valuable information to oil and gas executives, engineers, accountants, R&D services providers, regulatory agencies, tax practitioners, service companies, funding agencies, legal firms, on how industry working in concert with the different levels of government can take advantage of the SR&ED Program to leverage expenditures for R&D in the area of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions reduction. Participants will hear from experts on the subject from both the federal and provincial governments, and from the upstream oil and gas industry in a presentation by Suncor Energy Inc. The session will be valuable tocompanies involved in upstream as well as in downstream activities, including heavy oil and bitumen producers and upgraders.
