The Essence of the SR&ED Program - a Client-Centered Service to R&D Performers

Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2003
Time: 8:15 - 11:30 a.m.
New Location:

ABC Meeting Room, Ground Floor, Harry Hays Building
220 - 4th Avenue SE, Calgary

Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), KPMG High Technology Practice Group and PTAC Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada invite you to attend a Technical Working Group session designed to provide valuable information about the federal government's SR&ED Program and the various services that are available to R&D performers in Canada.

BACKGROUND
The SR&ED Program is a federal tax incentive program set up to encourage Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct R&D in Canada that will lead to new, improved or technologically advanced products, services or processes. It is the single largest source of federal government support for industrial research and development. The Program provides investment tax credits (ITCs) of up to 35% of qualifying SR&ED expenditures. ITCs so earned can be carried forward for up to 10 years, and used to offset income taxes payable. This session is the 10th in the series of Technology Forums dedicated to the discussion of issues of interest to the oil and gas industry. The last session, held in Calgary in May 2003, addressed the Climate Change Agenda and the opportunities for R&D in the oil and gas industry.

BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS
This workshop will provide valuable information to oil and gas executives, engineers, accountants, R&D services providers, regulatory agencies, tax practitioners, service companies, funding agencies, legal firms on the recent changes made to the SR&ED Program to make it more user-friendly, and the suite of Advisory Services that CCRA offers to R&D performers and SR&ED claimants. Participants will hear from experts on the subject from CCRA as well as from the oil and gas industry. The session will be valuable to companies involved in upstream as well as in downstream activities including oilfield services providers.
