PTAC/Precise Downhole Solutions: Electric, Intelligent Valve Technology: Improving EOR Sweep Efficiency and Recovery Factor

The Oura™ valve technology is an intelligent permanent completion system based upon real-time flow control and data acquisition from a series of multiple valves in vertical or horizontal wells. These bi-directional valves can be used for both Improved Oil Recovery in secondary and tertiary recovery or for Artificial Lift (Gas Lift) applications.

Key benefits:
• Reduce water production and processing costs in waterflood projects.
• Increase oil production in waterflood projects.
• Modify sweep direction from vertical to horizontal in thick reservoirs such as carbonates for miscible floods.
• Minimize conformance issues for injection gas and miscible fluids in unconventional Huff & Puff trials.
• Reduce chemical costs in polymer, surfactant and other chemical tertiary processes.
• Stimulate individual well segments in your wells without a workover.

In secondary and tertiary recovery applications, Oura™ valves are placed between packers allowing individual segments of the formation to be isolated in both the injection and production wells. The valves can be controlled from 0 – 100% open, allowing precise injection rates and volumes into each segment. In the production wells, identical valves control the production from each segment in those wells. At each valve sensors record both tubing and formation pressures & temperatures.

Learn how this technology can be applied to your existing or planned projects in conventional oil vertical and horizontal wells, as well as unconventional horizontal wells. Discover the potential for unlocking significant improvements in recovery factors in your secondary or tertiary (miscible and chemical) floods.

Background:
Enhanced oil recovery completions typically do not have the ability to control the injection of fluids dynamically from the injector wells to the producer wells. While Inflow Control Devices (ICD’s) can provide limited ability to control injection fluids, they are not controllable from surface. The Oura™ system provides the capability to modify flow patterns within the reservoir to improve sweep efficiency in real time.
